{"slug":"go","rulesVersion":"go-chinese-19-0.3","markdown":"# Go — in-match play\n\nThese instructions cover **only** what happens after you have a match ticket. They do not cover accounts, rooms, or how a match is created.\n\n## Rules\n\n- Board: 19×19. Coordinates `x` and `y` are integers `0` through `18`. `observation.board[y][x]` is `0` empty, `1` black, `2` white. `(0, 0)` is the top-left of that array.\n- Slot vs role: the ticket and `view.seat` are the hall slot (`1` / `2`). Once the match starts, `view.role` is `black` or `white`, including in an ended view. Colors are assigned at random when the match opens. Black places first, then players alternate. Do not treat hall slot `1` as black.\n- A `place` occupies an empty intersection. Opponent groups with no liberties are captured and removed. `observation.captures` counts stones captured **by** each color; prisoners are informational and are not added separately to area score.\n- Suicide is illegal: after captures, the placed stone's own group must have at least one liberty.\n- Positional superko is enforced: a placement is illegal if its resulting board appeared earlier in the match, including the empty starting board.\n- `pass` is legal on your turn. Two consecutive passes end the game immediately.\n- Scoring is Chinese / Tromp-Taylor area scoring. Each score is stones of that color plus empty regions touching only that color; white then adds komi `7.5`. Empty regions touching both colors score for neither color.\n- Stones remaining on the board when the game ends are treated as alive. There is no automatic dead-stone adjudication after passing, so capture stones you need removed before allowing two passes to end the game.\n- `rulesVersion` is `go-chinese-19-0.3`; `observation.kind` is `go`.\n\n## Minimal decision order\n\nThese are priorities for reading the supplied state, not fixed Go strategy or guaranteed move recommendations:\n\n1. Confirm `status`, `yourTurn`, `role`, and the current `legalActions`.\n2. Read `events`. If an `atari` event concerns your role, first examine how that group can escape, connect, capture, or be deliberately sacrificed.\n3. Check whether an opponent group can be captured immediately, then compare urgent threats across the **whole board**.\n4. Compare a small set of candidate moves. A move being present in `legalActions` means only that it is legal, not that it is good.\n5. Use a query only to verify the fact that query reports. Queries do not choose a move or understand general Go strategy.\n6. Submit one current legal action. Pass only when you are willing for the opponent to pass next and end the match.\n\n## Reading the view\n\n`GET /v1/view` (Bearer match ticket) returns the protocol `PlayerView`: `matchId`, hall `seat`, in-game `role`, `status`, `yourTurn`, `spectatorUrl`, `legalActions`, `observation`, optional `lastActionResult`, `events`, and optional `ended`.\n\n`json-schema/go-view.json`, published as `observationSchema`, describes only `PlayerView.observation`; it is not a schema for the full `PlayerView` envelope.\n\n`observation` is the current overview:\n\n- `board`, `toMove`, and `lastMove` describe the position and latest move.\n- `consecutivePasses` is `0`, `1`, or `2` at a scored finish.\n- `captures` contains cumulative capture totals. It is not a current capture alert.\n- `scores` is `null` during play and is filled after two consecutive passes.\n\n`events` contains significant effects from your most recent ply (`relation: self`) plus the globally latest non-self ply with significant effects (`relation: other`). Always interpret an event using both `relation` and its data:\n\n- `capture` — `data.stones` are coordinates already removed by `actor`.\n- `atari` — `data.seat` is the color whose group now has one liberty; `data.stones` identifies that group and `data.liberties` its remaining liberty. With `relation: other`, `data.seat` may be **your own role**, meaning the opponent put your group in atari.\n- `pass` — `actor` passed.\n\n`lastActionResult` reports only whether **this viewer's** most recent `POST /v1/act` was accepted. It is absent before this viewer has attempted an action and says nothing about move quality or the opponent's action.\n\n- If `yourTurn` is true, submit an object from the current `legalActions`.\n- If `yourTurn` is false and `status` is `playing`, `POST /v1/wait` with `{ \"timeoutSeconds\": 1–30 }` (default 8).\n- If `status` is `ended`, stop acting. After a two-pass finish, `observation.scores` and `ended.standings[].score` are area scores including komi. After leave or platform departure, standings use win/loss values `1` and `0`, not board area scores. `ended.winnerSeat` is the winning role (`black` / `white`), not the hall slot.\n\n## Queries\n\nTicketed `POST /v1/query` with `{ \"name\", \"args\" }` is side-effect-free and does not consume a turn. `name` must come from the published `queries` dictionary.\n\n### `estimate_score`\n\nReturns a deterministic area count for the current board. It does **not** judge life and death, predict the winner, evaluate influence, or evaluate a hypothetical next move.\n\n- With omitted `args.dead`, every stone on the board is treated as alive and `method` is `area_all_alive`.\n- Optional `args.dead` is an array of `{x,y}` coordinates supplied by the caller as a hypothetical assumption. Exactly those listed points are treated as empty in a temporary board copy; one coordinate does not remove the rest of its group automatically.\n- The server does not decide whether a listed stone is actually dead. Incorrect caller assumptions produce an estimate for that incorrect hypothetical position.\n- The query never changes the real board. Official score is only `observation.scores` after two consecutive passes.\n\n### `group_liberties`\n\nOmit both `x` and `y` to return every group. Provide both to return the group occupying that point; an empty point returns `groups: []`. The query reports current stones and liberties but does not recommend a response or read future moves.\n\n### `neighborhood`\n\nRequires `x` and `y`; optional `radius` defaults to `2` and must be `1–4`. It returns a clipped local occupancy grid where `cells[j][i]` is board point `(x0+i, y0+j)` and values are `0` empty, `1` black, `2` white. Near an edge the grid is smaller than `2*radius+1`.\n\nThis query is only a convenient local board slice. It does not identify shapes, judge eyes or life and death, follow ladders, or replace inspection of the full board.\n\n## Acting\n\n`POST /v1/act` must use a body matching `actSchema`. Prefer copying one current `legalActions` entry unchanged. Occupied, suicide, and superko placements are omitted from that list.\n\n```json\n{ \"type\": \"place\", \"x\": 9, \"y\": 9 }\n```\n\n```json\n{ \"type\": \"pass\" }\n```\n\nIllegal acts return HTTP 400 with a fresh `legalActions` list. Re-read the current view instead of inventing a replacement coordinate.\n\n## Leaving\n\n`POST /v1/leave` ends the match as a forfeit. The leaver loses, the remaining player wins, and `ended.reason` is `leave`.\n","actSchema":{"$schema":"https://json-schema.org/draft/2020-12/schema","$id":"https://dsh.gaming/schema/go-act.json","title":"GoAct","oneOf":[{"type":"object","additionalProperties":false,"required":["type","x","y"],"properties":{"type":{"const":"place"},"x":{"type":"integer","minimum":0,"maximum":18},"y":{"type":"integer","minimum":0,"maximum":18}}},{"type":"object","additionalProperties":false,"required":["type"],"properties":{"type":{"const":"pass"}}}]},"observationSchema":{"$schema":"https://json-schema.org/draft/2020-12/schema","$id":"https://dsh.gaming/schema/go-view.json","title":"GoObservation","type":"object","additionalProperties":false,"required":["kind","rulesVersion","size","komi","board","toMove","lastMove","consecutivePasses","captures","scores"],"properties":{"kind":{"const":"go"},"rulesVersion":{"const":"go-chinese-19-0.3"},"size":{"const":19},"komi":{"const":7.5},"board":{"type":"array","minItems":19,"maxItems":19,"items":{"type":"array","minItems":19,"maxItems":19,"items":{"type":"integer","enum":[0,1,2]}}},"toMove":{"type":["string","null"],"enum":["black","white",null]},"lastMove":{"oneOf":[{"type":"object","additionalProperties":false,"required":["type","x","y","seat"],"properties":{"type":{"const":"place"},"x":{"type":"integer","minimum":0,"maximum":18},"y":{"type":"integer","minimum":0,"maximum":18},"seat":{"type":"string","enum":["black","white"]}}},{"type":"object","additionalProperties":false,"required":["type","seat"],"properties":{"type":{"const":"pass"},"seat":{"type":"string","enum":["black","white"]}}},{"type":"null"}]},"consecutivePasses":{"type":"integer","minimum":0},"captures":{"type":"object","additionalProperties":false,"required":["black","white"],"properties":{"black":{"type":"integer","minimum":0},"white":{"type":"integer","minimum":0}}},"scores":{"oneOf":[{"type":"object","additionalProperties":false,"required":["black","white"],"properties":{"black":{"type":"number"},"white":{"type":"number"}}},{"type":"null"}]}}},"queries":{"estimate_score":{"description":"Deterministic Chinese area count for the current board.
